  1. Street Hive

StreetHive is a free service that combines social networking, and geographic location tagging. StreetHive is like having a big map that you and your friends can tag with notes, photos, reviews, and your own locations. Find your friends location and meet up, create and swap location-tagged photos and messages, discover and broadcast your new favorite places, send free text messages to a friend or a group of friends for free.

  2. YakToAnyone

YakToAnyone is a newVoIP service based on the Ineen engine. Similar to Skype, YakToAnyone offers long distance service from computers to phone numbers all around the world starting from $.02 per minute and computer-to-computer calls for free. The telephony service requires no monthly commitment and users can buy credits directly from a credit or debit card. International calls can be as cheap as $.02 per minute to first-world nations but rates can escalate dramatically when calling third-world or remote nations. YakToAnyone also offers video phone services and accessories that make your existing phone compatible with the service.

WigiWigi is the first public release of a video over IP application that is built on a completely new and unique protocol. Unlike other desktop videoconferencing applications, WigiWigi one does not require any specific DLLs, drivers, codecs, DirectX or dedicated third-party libraries. It doesn't even require an installation. WigiWigi results on your screen may indeed surprise you very positively. Download WigiWigi here.

  5. Wikispaces

    wikispaces_logo.gif
Wikispaces provides simple wikis for groups of people by focusing their effort on taking the complexity out of them.
A few things set Wikispaces apart from most other wiki offerings out there:

    • real WYSIWYG editing with full conversion to and from wikitext for those who want to use it

    • public and protected (members-only editing) wikis are free, supported by Google ads

    • private wikis are $5/month or $50/year (with SSL)

    • no limits on spaces, members, pages, etc.

    • every page has a discussion area alongside it

    • visual display of page changes

    • blog integration: link blog pages to wiki pages, import entries

    • RSS feeds for everything: messages, pages, whole spaces.

Thank you for the Wikispaces.com recommendation. Although I should note that in my usual obsessive compulsive manner I couldn’t follow your recommendation right off.

Nooooo. I had to Google "wiki" every which way until I found WikiMatrix.org, which provides one of the most detailed comparison charts and easy-to-use comparison wizards I've ever seen. After reviewing several other wiki software offerings, I ended up concluding that the best choice for me was . . . Wikispaces.

I love the fact that I can put Adsense ads wherever I want (not true of most wiki software); the quick, friendly support offered by Wikispaces; and the company's commitment to helping educational groups with their "100,000 wikis in the classroom" give-away campaign (which I was happy to plug in the press release I just wrote for my new wiki).

If you allow URL's here, you can see how I'm using Wikispaces at:

Thanks again for this great resource.
