Open-Source Conferencing Platform With Integrated Screen Sharing, Video And VoIP: DimDim - Video
DimDim released today a new version of its web conferencing tool that enables you to organize online meetings and allows you to show presentation and share documents in real-time.
DimDim features instant screen sharing/application sharing from the presenter's computer. A whiteboard with annotation capabilities is also available in its interface.
Other important new features are the integrated VoIP and video communication, which enable the presenter to broadcast himself and talk to the audience in real-time.
DimDim is free to use and completely web-based, so you don't need to download or install anything to use it. The only requirement it has, is that you need to access it through Internet Explorer.
Take a look at my own 4' video introduction to DimDim in which I show how to use this new web conferencing tool to set up online meeting and share any kind of files within your team. Here is it:
DimDim is nice, but spreed supports Linux and Macs as well and it comes with whiteboard and high-definition document and video presentation functions. spreed Web2.0 conferencing is available as worldwide free service for up to 3 participants. See spreed.com for details.
@Serge: For now DimDim works only with IE, and therefore, as of now, it requires a computer running Windows... so I apologize for the misleading expression, that I am now going to correct. Thanks.
That's right Manish. From what we've been told by its founder, more features including whiteboard are on the way. It should be noted that it is still an alpha version.
Robert, other thing you might want to correct is that Dimdim is currently working on porting their app to work with firefox and on linux as well and is due in its future release.
Thanks for the review. My overall impression is positive. Please correct me if I am wrong but I do not think DimDim has whiteboard option as if now, though they are working on it.
